Miriam Feuerzinger, the beautiful Austrian early music soprano who has blossomed in the early music world. Feueringer, who won Germany’s prestigious Echo Classic Award in 2014 for her recording of Graupner’s *Cantata Collection* (CHR77381), bringing her name and voice to the world, now presents a collection of German Baroque cantatas in collaboration with the period ensemble “Capricornus Consort Basel,” Cantorum in Basel, which was founded in 2006 by artists trained there. Beginning with an album (CHR77399) exploring the connections among the cantors of St. Thomas Church—such as Graupner, Kuna, and J.S. Bach—the series continued with a collection of Graupner cantatas (CHR77381) and a collection of Graupner’s duet cantatas (CHR77427), and finally, the much-anticipated collection of Bach’s cantatas has been recorded! Named after the title of Bach’s Cantata No. 84, this album bears the subtitle “Ich bin vergnügt…” (“I am happy”). Featuring three of Bach’s most beautiful cantatas—including Cantata No. 51, an operatic and technically demanding hymn, and Cantata No. 82, with its intimate and exquisite melodies expressing a fervent plea to the saints—performed for soprano solo, combined with chorales arranged by Baroque violinist Peter Barsi (Peter Balci), conductor of the Capricornus Consort Basel, to create a magnificent program performed by specialists in German Baroque music.
