Among them, this album features works for flute and orchestra. The flutist is Roberto Fabrizi, a leading figure in the Italian flute world. His technique and rich tone remain as impressive as ever. The three early works, composed between 1902 and 1905, are simple yet rich in color—a hallmark of Respighi’s style. Among them, the very early *Sweet Waltzes and Melodies for Flute and String Ensemble* is brimming with youthful energy and a romantic atmosphere; combined with Fabrizio’s flute playing, it is a highly enjoyable piece despite its brevity. The suite *The Birds*, composed in 1928, fully showcases Respighi’s techniques—influenced by the Renaissance and Baroque periods—and skillfully employs early music-style sounds.
