A collection of exquisite miniatures by Schumann and Fauré, performed by a duo of two world-renowned principal players from the Berlin Philharmonic: cellist Martin Rell and harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet! Martin Rehl of Germany, principal cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic since 1997, and Marie-Pierre Langlamet of France, principal harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic since 1993, have arranged numerous masterpieces by Schumann and Fauré—composers who both created outstanding instrumental works and and made significant contributions to the development of these genres. They have arranged many of Schumann and Fauré’s masterpieces into duets for “cello and harp.” In tackling these masterpieces by Schumann and Fauré with “cello and harp” rather than “cello and piano,” Rehr and Langlamet position the harp’s timbre as closer to that of a fortepiano or harpsichord than to a modern piano, They have reexamined their expression, interpretation, and balance to ensure that the cello’s vibrato in Romantic music does not overshadow the harp’s beautiful, brilliant tone and resonance, thereby engaging in an “artistic dialogue” that brings out the infinite possibilities inherent in these works and this instrumentation. Two principal players from the Berlin Philharmonic invite you into the Romantic worlds of “Germany and France” through the sounds of the cello and harp.
