A legend in the German trumpet world, Reinhold Friedrich has been a trusted advisor to Claudio Abbado, and since 2003 has also been principal of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, an all-star European orchestra. Friedrich, who has made a vast number of recordings in his long career, has newly created a duo with his public and private partner, pianist Eriko Takezawa, for the new "Works for Trumpet and Piano" recording in 2020.Thomas Ehrler (1980-) and Jonathan Freeman-Attwood (1961-) co-composed the "Sonata based on Richard Strauss" (2015-2020), based on the music of Richard Strauss's violin sonatas and other works, with the idea of "What if Richard Strauss had written a trumpet sonata?" The Sonata based on Richard Strauss (2015-2020) was composed with the idea of "What if Richard Strauss had written a sonata for trumpet? and the trumpet version of the "Flower Chapter" from Mahler's "Giant," which is also the title of the album.
