Noseda, together with the Turin Teatro Regio Orchestra—with whom he was in the prime of his artistic partnership at the time—unravels the depths of Mahler’s “Symphony No. 9,” a work dominated throughout by pessimistic themes such as “death” and “separation” and which became Mahler’s final completed symphony. For this recording of Mahler’s Ninth, Giulio Cesare Ricci used three sets of microphones: the Neumann U47, U48, and M49.
