Volume 8 of the series, now reaching its climax, features a live recording of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, which became his final symphony. In an essay written by Adam Fischer himself, he discusses how Mahler feared death due to the so-called “Ninth Symphony curse,” the relationship between the work and “dying,” as well as the relationship and influence of Viennese Classicism—particularly Schubert—offers fascinating insights.
