Sean Sibe, a young Scottish guitar prodigy who garnered attention after winning the “Young Artist Award” at the 2017 Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards. His first album, *Dreams and Fantasies* (PDCD34193), and his second album, *Soft Loud* (PDCD34213)—both released by Delphian in Scotland—were nominated for the BBC Music Magazine Awards; furthermore, “Soft Loud”—an exceptionally ambitious project combining works for acoustic and electric guitar—was selected for the newly established “Concept Album Award” at the UK’s Gramophone Awards, making his name known around the world.
His highly anticipated third album is a collection of works by J.S. Bach, which he is currently focusing on. Although it is unclear for which instruments these works were originally written, three pieces—the “Lute Suite in E minor (No. 1),” the “Partita in C minor (Lute Suite No. 2),” and “Prelude, Fugue, and Allegro in E-flat Major”—which, though it is unclear for which instruments they were originally written, have become staples of the contemporary guitarist’s repertoire—are presented here with a soft, soothing guitar tone. The album’s subtitle, “For Lute or Harpsichord (pour l’aluthocembal),” is taken from a note written in the manuscript of BWV 998.
