Description:
Dominik Werner & Masato Suzuki! The Story of Beautiful Magellone" with Japanese commentary and lyrics translation! This groundbreaking multimedia project was held at Toppan Hall in 2008 as the first performance of the "German-Japanese Lieder Forum" (DJL), formed by Dominique Werner, Masato Suzuki, and video producer Goro Tamura. Based on the novel "The Love Story of the Beautiful Magerone and Count Peter of Provence" by the early German Romantic poet Ludwig Teich, this is Brahms' only completed song cycle "The Story of the Beautiful Magerone," featuring a reading of the story extracted from the original novel, songs by Dominik Werner, and paintings by the artist Kensaku Fukasawa. Although the CD does not include the readings, the 79-page color booklet features the stories and lyrics (in Japanese, German, and English) excerpted by Willi Pilzer and paintings by Kensaku Fukazawa, re-creating Tieck's original stories. The original story by Tieck has been re-created. The fortepiano played by Yuto Suzuki is an original instrument made by Johann Baptist Streicher and his son company. It was made in Vienna in 1870, close to the year "The Story of the Beautiful Magellone" was composed (1869), and Brahms owned an identical model of this instrument.
