A new recording from the “Mikalinba” project, featuring Mika Stoltzman—a marimba player who masterfully blends classical and jazz to create a new genre—and Richard Stoltzman, the legendary clarinetist and two-time Grammy Award winner. Following “Palimpsest (AV2409),” which featured a classical program, “Tapereba”—a jazz and world music program—is now being released as a Japanese edition with liner notes (written exclusively by Yo Nakagawa). Jazz legends Steve Gadd and Eddie Gomez—who have performed with Mika Stoltzman and others for over a decade—provide a powerful rhythm section, joined by Steve’s son Duke Gadd and Brazilian mandolinist Amilton de Holanda, among others. Kazunori Maruyama, known for his work on the NHK morning drama series “Chura-san,” appears as a pianist on his own arrangement of “Rhapsody in Blue.” Also worth noting are classic songs like “Spain” and “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” which have been specially arranged for this project.
