Description:
Keiko Shichijo, a renowned fortepianist based in the Netherlands! Beethoven played a rare instrument from 1802! Keiko Shichijo studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School, the Amsterdam Conservatory, and the Royal Conservatory of Ghent in Belgium. She won the top prize and the Minkov Prize in the fortepiano category at the Bruges International Early Music Competition, and took first place at the “A.Tre” International Early Music Competition in Trossingen, Germany. Currently residing in the Netherlands, she is actively performing throughout Europe and Japan. Keiko Shichijo, a prominent fortepianist who plays a leading role in the early music scenes of both Japan and the Netherlands, has released a self-produced album on the prestigious Dutch label Et’cetera. The album *Beethoven 1802* is themed around the year 1802—a year that proved to be exceptionally significant for Beethoven, both personally and musically, as it was when he wrote the “Heiligenstadt Testament.” Centered on the theme of “1802,” the album features two masterpiece piano sonatas composed or published in 1802—“Moonlight” and “The Tempest”—as well as the “Eroica Variations.” The instruments used are also a key highlight. The album is meticulously dedicated to the “Year 1802,” featuring a rare 1802 fortepiano bearing the signature “Frère et Sœur Stein (Stein Brother and Sister/Frère et Sœur Stein). Both siblings were friends of Beethoven, and he owned a fortepiano they had crafted. The Stein siblings had a falling out in 1802 and subsequently went their separate ways; Matthäus, signing as “Andre Stein,” played a key role in the history of the piano’s evolution and development as part of the Stein family for over a century, while Nannette, along with her husband Johann Andreas Streicher, signed as “Nannette Streichernee Stein” and played a key role as part of the Streicher family for over a century as well.
