Pas de deux" means "two steps," and literally refers to the greatest showcase of a story developed by two dancers, a man and a woman. It originated around the 18th century, but it was not considered very important at that time, and its content evolved dramatically in the romantic ballet of the 19th century. This film features 16 "pas de deux" from the Royal Ballet's outstanding repertoire, showing the diversity of choreography from the 19th century classics to the contemporary works of Ashton and Macmillan, as well as the technique and artistry of the dancers.
