Eroica: The Day That Changed Music Forever The Eroica Symphony is often said to have changed the course of symphonic history. This release consists of a dramatised feature (Film) recreating the rehearsals surrounding the private first performance of the Eroica at the palace of Beethoven's patron Prince Lobkowitz in December 1804, together with a complete performance of the symphony (Performance). The drama features a distinguished cast: Ian Hart (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone), Frank Finlay (The Pianist), Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), Tim Pigott-Smith (The Remains of the Day) and Claire Skinner (Naked). The complete performance, fascinating for its period costumes and its close-ups of period instruments, was conceived as a sequel to the film itself: the conductor shown on screen is Ian Hart in character as Beethoven (though he does very little actual conducting), and Gardiner himself does not appear on camera.
