Description:
Gamberotto, a wealthy landowner, and his daughter Ernestina. She falls in love with a poor young man named Ermanno, but Gamberotto wants to make her the wife of a wealthy man named Braccino. Hermanno tries to prevent this by lying to Braccino that Ernestina is not a woman at all, but a castrated deserter from the army, which leads to her arrest. The father, Gamberotto, is furious when he sees Braricchino calmly watching Ernestina being arrested in front of him, and Ermanno goes to rescue Ernestina despite the commotion. Composed by Rossini at the age of 19, "A Terrible Misunderstanding," the second opera buffa of Rossini, was banned by the authorities despite its favorable reception at its premiere in Bologna in 1811, and although it was performed once again in 1825, it was never performed again until the latter half of the 20th century. It was a work of illusion that was not performed again until the latter half of the 20th century. The composer's youthful music is a joy to hear, and the singing ensemble in particular is superb, reminiscent of the Rossini of later years.The performance at the Wilbert Rossini Festival 2018, recorded here, uses a revised score by the German Rossini Society and features acting singing by an outstanding group of young singers on a simple stage. The lively performance by the Viltuozi Brunensis under the direction of José Miguel Pérez-Sierra is also a must-see. Naxos Japan
