Description:
Marino Faliero," Donizetti's almost 50th opera, was composed in 1835, the same year as "Lucia di Lammermoor. Marino Faliero was the real Marino Faliero, who was elected as the 54th Governor of Venice in 1354, but the following year became the ringleader of a popular uprising and was sentenced to death by the Council of Ten, of which he was the chairman. In 1921, the English poet Lord Byron wrote a full-length tragedy about Faliero, which inspired the playwright Dravigne to write a play of the same title, which was adapted into a libretto by Videla and sung by Donizetti. The people's distrust of politics and distrust of his young wife. These are combined to form a tragedy that cannot be avoided. Donizetti's "political opera," a work that is as relevant to today's society as any of Verdi's works, was directed by Marco Spada and performed by a superb cast of singers led by the famous baritone Surian, using sumptuous costumes and equipment.
