This project was inspired by guitarist and composer Bogdanovich’s idea to compile a collection of world music for his young son. Inspired by the performances of the Goni and Peretta guitar duo, the original concept expanded significantly. The album features a diverse collection of works inspired by folk music and traditional songs, ranging from 17th-century chansons to Irish jigs, Dalmatian satirical songs, Sephardic romances, and dance tunes from Iran and Bali. In the opening Neapolitan folk song, mandolin-style tremolos and pizzicatos add a playful touch. Only two tracks on the album are arrangements from the classical repertoire. Track 10, Luther’s hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” and Track 34, Chopin’s “Song of Spring (A Maiden’s Wish),” are performed creatively while utilizing traditional harmonies. The other pieces—including African music from Namibia and Ghana, the irregular time signatures characteristic of the Balkans, and melodies from the Middle East and the Far East—feature arrangements that evoke the unique musical traditions of their respective cultures. The album also includes Japanese songs such as “Sakura Sakura” and “Mukou Yokocho.” Like a journey through a “Music Garden—a garden of world music,” this album is brimming with the joy of dialogue that transcends generations and cultures.
