Description:
A popular NAXOS series, this collection of works by Ukrainian-born Alexei Shaul, who is currently based in New York. The fourth collection is a diverse collection of small works, primarily cello and violin concertos. The Cello Concerto No. 1, "Musical Pilgrimage," is a work that combines respect for past musical styles with a modern sensibility. The first movement begins in a neoclassical style and eventually develops into the technical style of the Romantic period. In the second movement, the cello takes the leading role, strongly leading the orchestra in a tense and emotionally rich music. The final movement features a tango with unique rhythms and a unique ending that mixes classical music with modern stimulation. Violin Concerto No. 3 "Four Seasons in Manhattan" is in the tradition of the "Four Seasons" works by Vivaldi and Piazzolla, and colorfully depicts the transitions of spring, summer, fall, and winter in the modern metropolis of Manhattan. Each movement is appealing with its familiar melodies and expressive music, and the skillful solos and sparkling orchestral sounds blend beautifully, culminating in the hopeful "Spring". The violin soloist is Shin Hyun-soo, first prize winner of the 2008 Ron Thibaud Competition.Phoenix" is a work that embraces the theme of the rebirth and transformation of the mythological phoenix. The lyrical and technical violin solo is played by Dumitru Pochitali, concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra since 2024. The "Frozen Garden Waltz," composed as part of the ballet "Crystal Palace," depicts the fragile and quiet beauty of winter. The solo violin plays a melody reminiscent of the shimmering waters of Venice, and the sweet harmonies of the orchestra create a meditative atmosphere. Schubertango" is a unique work that blends Schubert's graceful melodies, including the Arpeggione Sonata, with the passionate rhythms of the tango. It is impressive and unforgettable music.
