Featuring conductor Alvaro Cassuto, born in Porto, Portugal in 1938, Cassuto earned a law degree from the University of Lisbon and a conducting degree from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna a year later, and is also a highly regarded composer whose works have been commissioned by music institutions in Portugal and the United States. He has received commissions from music institutions in Portugal and the United States. In addition to conducting orchestras throughout Portugal, he has conducted numerous prestigious orchestras, including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The three orchestras that Cassuto conducts on this album are all organizations that he founded, and he plays every piece with great enthusiasm. He has also devoted himself to a campaign to promote the music of Jolly Braga Santos, whom he admires, and here you can hear one piece, "Staccato Brillante," selected from his many recordings for MARCO POLO.
