This disc features organ works composed at the end of the 20th century and into the 21st century. South African-born Jordan's "Songs of Praise," a 1999 work, was written as a prayer song in a different culture than the West. It is modeled on the Songs of Praise that are said to be sung in traditional African tribal ceremonies, and the intense, ultra-skilled sections are inspired by the drums that enliven the rituals. This recording is based on the 2018 revised version. Brandmüller, a longtime professor of composition at the Saar College of Music, recorded his last work, "The Sound of the Starry Sky," which is an independent recording of part of the serial work "Kosmogonia," for the first time. It uses layers of sound divided into "earth" and "space" and depicts their dialogue. Pelto's "Coming and Going" was written in 1980 to commemorate the 950th anniversary of the foundation of Speyer Cathedral. After a minute or so of grandiose sounds reminiscent of a cathedral building, the music fades away peacefully after a progression reminiscent of the liturgy of the Mass. Dialogue with the Stars" is a work by Christian von Broun, the performer of this disc and organist of Saint Etienne du Mont church in Paris.It is inspired by a sonic dialogue with his mentor, the now deceased Brandtmüller. Eskesch's "Evocation II" is a kaleidoscope of diverse musical elements, including Gregorian chant, polyphonic music, and poetry from the Baroque period, over a bass based on the rhythms of African dance.
