The latest collection of guitar music in Greece in the 21st century. This album is a collection of music commissioned by Greek-born guitarist Dimitris Shkaras from composers in his native Greece. The collection features a variety of styles, including jazz, contemporary, and avant-garde. Krampanis' "Ariadne's Duality," based on the mythological Ariadne, incorporates Greek folk songs and jazz, often using the guitar as a percussion instrument. Tsarafouris's "Haiku" is a suite with songs. The composer's own haiku in Greek are used to create a condensed world within the short piece. The work by Maroulis, featuring heroes from Greek mythology, uses an avant-garde approach to depict heroes defying their fate with guitar and strings. Antoninou's "Homage," placed last, is dedicated to the memory of Manos Hadjidakis, a Greek national composer who passed away in 1994. It was composed for the 30th Athens Guitar Festival.
