Description:
Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award winner William Bolcom is one of the most internationally acclaimed American composers of all time. This album features two world premiere recordings of his works. The Horn Trio is a modern take on Brahms' Trio. The melancholy solo horn passages in the third movement are impressive. Mysterious echoes that seem to come from the forest are intertwined with the tones of the other instruments. The Suite for Solo Violin is a 2011 work written for the virtuoso Gil Shaham. It consists of nine playful pieces that make full use of the violin's versatile timbre and include melodies that sound like something you've heard somewhere before. It begins with the rhapsodic "Morning Music," followed by "Dancing in Place," which makes effective use of strings and fingerboard. It is interspersed with jazz- and baroque-style pieces and concludes with "Evening Music. The concert will be performed by violinist Philippe Fixot, who loves contemporary American works. Naxos Japan
