Robert Grolo is a composer and pianist based in Belgium. Originally a concert pianist who won an award at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, he has recently begun working as a graphic artist and is also producing films, showcasing his multifaceted talents. As a composer, he has already released more than 50 works. Drawing inspiration from British literature, painting, and the natural world, his compositions—each imbued with his philosophy that “music should bring joy to the performers as well”—possess a mysterious and unique atmosphere. This album features works for soprano, a genre he says is currently of particular interest to him. It includes “The Intimacy of Distance,” a richly contrasting piece that explores “the path by which the elements of life are realized” through a concertante combination of orchestra and voice, and “My Green Shade Forest,” an orchestral work inspired by serene nature. You can also hear the three works of “Trittico incantevole” (Enchanting Triptych), which are said to have been inspired by the paintings of the Dutch artist Peter Paul Rubens. Naxos Japan
