Description:
This is a collection of violin works by Henri Tomasi, a composer from Marseille. Although less well known for his wind works, these are characteristic works that provide a compact view of the direction of composition in 20th century France. The violin concerto "Ulysses' Travels" was written in the composer's later years, and is a work that intertwines technical violin melodies with colorful, resonant orchestral sounds. The "Capriccio" is graceful and elegant, with a slow movement full of emotional ups and downs followed by a glorious finale. The other five pieces were all composed early in Tomasi's career. They have an exotic atmosphere, drawing on traditional music from Corsica, his parents' native island. Naxos Japan
