Di Vittorio recently garnered attention for conducting Respighi’s *Ancient Dances and Arias for Lute* (8.573901). Born in Palermo, Sicily, he studied fine arts and ancient philosophy in New York and began his conducting career in Rome, Florence, and London. He has since been active primarily in New York. As a composer, he has released a series of brilliant works that infuse the Italian orchestral tradition with a modern sensibility; these have been highly acclaimed. In this second collection, listeners can enjoy brilliant works featuring vivid depictions that reflect the culture and history of his hometown, Palermo. Symphony No. 3 depicts the beauty of Sicilian temples, while Symphony No. 4—a masterpiece in which Vittorio poured his heart and soul—draws its subject matter from *Metamorphoses* by the ancient Roman poet Ovid. Each piece is highly accessible and showcases a superb finish that can be considered emblematic of 21st-century Italian music. The performance is, of course, by Di Vittorio himself.
