Description:
The complete symphonies by Nielsen's Orchestra. The RDO was founded in 1448 as a trumpet band to perform in the presence of King Christian I of Denmark. King Christian I of Denmark in 1448. The RDO was founded in 1448 as a trumpet band to perform in the presence of King Christian I of Denmark, and has been expanded and reorganized since then. Surprisingly, a roster of members has survived from the first generation and is numbered in sequence, including the names of Dowland (No. 140) and Schütz (No. 259). Nielsen, a leading Danish composer, was a violinist (No. 647) from 1889 to 1905, and he appeared frequently as a conductor thereafter. Since many of his major works were premiered here, the orchestra still has a special pride in being "Nielsen's orchestra. In this box, Bernstein's No. 3 is licensed from CBS (now Sony Classical), Berglund's No. 6 from RCA (same), and Schenwand's "Masked Ball" Overture from DACAPO, but all others are selected from the archives and are being released on CD for the first time.No. 1 is conducted by Senago, with whom he has maintained a good relationship since his first appearance in 2005. No. 2 was conducted by Vedernikov, who had been the chief conductor since 2018 and had shown great promise. Less than two months after this performance, he was struck down by the Corona disaster and never returned. In 1965, the 100th anniversary of Nielsen's birth, Bernstein received the Leonie Sonning Music Prize, Denmark's highest music award, and conducted No. 3 at the commemorative concert. Rattle, who also won the Leonie Sonning Music Prize in 2013, conducted No. 4 live at the commemorative concert. This performance of No. 4 is a live performance from the anniversary concert. Rattle had a special sympathy for the Fourth from early on, and his 1984 recording with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra is still highly acclaimed. Here, too, Rattle's command of the music brought out the best from the orchestra, especially in the final movement, with its strong contrasts of stillness and movement, and its long, breathless exultation, which was well-received by the audience.Boder, who served as chief conductor from 2012-16, further enhanced the orchestra's reputation by conducting No. 5 on its 2015 European tour, the 150th anniversary of Nielsen's birth. Here is a live recording of the orchestra's send-off concert held at its home base prior to the tour. Berglund, who served as principal conductor from 1993 to 1998, conducted No. 6. CD4 is a bonus disc. The Clarinet Concerto was written by Nielsen for RDO soloist Auge Oxenwad (orchestra member No. 706), one of the special bonds between the composer and the orchestra. Here it is soloed by his junior, Jörn Kruse (orchestra member no. 946), in a tribute to a great tradition. The special edition box comes with a full commentary in English and Danish and a 36-page booklet with many photos. Naxos Japan
