Martucci, Giuseppe (1856-1909)
Description:
Giuseppe Martucci was a composer who devoted himself to the revival of Italian instrumental music in the late 19th century. His orchestral works were highly praised by Mahler and Toscanini, and his piano concertos in particular attracted many fans. However, his piano works have not been performed very often, partly because Alfredo Casella criticized them as being too "salon-like. This album includes mazurkas and nocturnes influenced by Chopin and Mendelssohn, "Gentle Sonatas" reminiscent of Scarlatti, "Menuetto and Tempo di Gavotte," which incorporates Romantic language into classical forms, and "Six Pieces," each with a French title, The works include world premiere recordings such as "Tarantella," reminiscent of Liszt's "Tarantella," all of which are colored with the elegant melodies and gorgeous technique of Martucci, who was also an excellent pianist. Italian pianist Matteo Generani is a scholar of Giuseppe Martucci and has devoted himself to performing, recording, and popularizing his piano works. Naxos Japan
