Violin Sonata by Italian composer Enrico Bossi, who was active as an organist in Italy during the heyday of opera at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. He devoted himself to the revival of Italian instrumental music. Although he is best known for his works for organ, his few chamber works are also full of lyricism and melodies full of song, and all of them are very enjoyable to listen to. The first sonata is a work that begins with a passionate theme. It also has an experimental aspect, incorporating a cyclic form similar to that of César Franck's sonatas. The second sonata is a classical four-movement work reminiscent of Beethoven and Brahms.The melody sung over a broad arpeggio on the piano in the first movement is impressive. Baldini, born in Italy and concertmaster of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, gives a passionate performance. Naxos Japan
