Friedemann Eichhorn Say, Fazil (1970-)
Description:
Fazil Say is not only an outstanding pianist and a unique presence in the classical music world for more than 25 years, but also an active composer with more than 110 works and numerous albums, ranging from symphonies to piano pieces. All of his works are deeply inspired by nature and personal experience. This album contains four pieces, including a world premiere recording. Violin Concerto No. 2, "Spring Morning in Isolation," was composed at his home in Ulla, Turkey, during the lockdown of the new coronavirus infection in 2020. It was inspired by the sunrises and morning ambience I saw each morning while strolling along an empty beach. The first movement has a rural feel, the second is an active "jazz dance," the third describes a quiet morning, and the final movement concludes with a meditative epilogue with solo violin. The solo violin is played by Friedemann Eichhorn, a longtime friend of Cy's. Together with the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra, conducted by Eschenbach, the performance is full of empathy. Leopard" for string sextet is based on Sai's experience on a safari, and describes the agility and strength of the leopard, as well as highlighting the importance of nature conservation. The piece was commissioned by the Kronberg Academy. The Sonata for Solo Violin is a memorial work dedicated to his close friend and viola player Lucien Günesch, who died in 2020. The piece is originally for viola, but violin and cello versions also exist. As the title suggests, it is deeply mournful. The string quartet entitled "Divorce" reflects his personal experiences. The first movement has irregular rhythms and jazz-like elements, the second movement is melancholic and introverted, and the final movement is a musical expression of hatred and conflict. Naxos Japan
