Description:
Orpha is the second to last of the fourteen ballets written by Adolphe Adin, of whom Giselle is the most famous. The scenario is taken from Norse mythology and depicts a conflict between two generations of gods, father and son. The story featuring Loki (Loge) and Odin (Wotan) is one of the most popular and standard material used in Wagner's "Ring of the Nibelung" and the movie "The Mighty Thor. The premiere featured Italian ballet dancer and choreographer Fanny Cerrito, who was very popular at the time, in the title role, and was a huge hit. Musically, it is also characterized by gorgeous solo parts for several instruments. This world premiere recording of this performance uses a new edition copied from Adan's autograph general score in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. Dario Salvi, who is well-known for his Aubert and Maierbeer works, conducts the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, bringing out the spectacular and spectral tone of the orchestra and enhancing the showcase of each instrument.
