Description:

Saint-Georges was born in Guadeloupe, a French territory in the Caribbean Sea. With brown skin due to his African mother's blood, he was an athlete and master swordsman, as well as an outstanding violinist and composer in late 18th century France, earning the nickname "Mozart with dark skin. He was nicknamed "Mozart the Black Skinned." Fourteen of his violin concertos have been identified, and most of them were published in pairs. This album contains two such pairs of four concertos, all of which are centered around a technical solo violin part, and all of them are full of fascinating and varied musical ideas reminiscent of Mozart. The solo violinist on this album is Fumika Mohri, who is rapidly expanding her activities in Japan and Germany. Her own cadenza is also a highlight. Chevalier de Saint-Georges. I first heard of this composer when I was asked to record him. When I opened the score, I found the beauty of the simple melody, which must have influenced Mozart, and many superb techniques that made me imagine his brilliant swordsmanship as an excellent knight. This time I created the cadenza. It was a time-consuming and difficult task to find my favorite themes and motifs in the works and to develop them into a cadenza, but it was a valuable experience that allowed me to think more deeply about this wonderful composer. I hope that everyone who listens to my performance of Saint-Georges' works will also enjoy this new discovery.
