A collection of sonatas for keyboard by Spanish composer Antonio Soler, NAXOS has been recording a shared collection of young pianists who have won competitions, this time featuring Daumantz Liepinsch, who won first prize at the 2019 Maria Canals International Piano Competition! It is. Soler was trained as a church musician and served as organist at the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, where he befriended musicians such as Domenico Scarlatti, who worked at the court of King Felipe II, and left behind many sonatas influenced by him. The three sonatas in this volume are said to have been influenced by the Viennese pre-classical style, which was popular at the time, and are characterized by a pastoral atmosphere, refined delicacy, and a gorgeous finish that requires great virtuosity. The pianist Daumantz Liepinsh, a native of Latvia, plays on this album.In 2017, he won the Young Artist Award of the Latvian music prize "Liela muzikas balva", and in 2020, he was selected as one of the "Four Pianists to Watch" by "Pianist Magazine" in the UK.
