One of Ligeti's masterpieces of the late period, "Practice for Piano" is a thorough exploration of the possibilities of tonal expression on the piano, building a unique world with complex rhythms and combinations of sounds reminiscent of geometric patterns. Originally intended to be 12 pieces following Debussy's Exercises, the conception grew to a total of 18 pieces. This album also includes two capriccios written in 1947. The humorous No. 1 and the Bartok-esque No. 2, both of which have distinct characters. Chen Han, born in 1992, won the first prize at the China International Piano Competition in 2013, and since then has released albums of various works by Adès (8.574109), Liszt (8.573415), Rubinshtein (8.573989), and others as a master of superb technique.
