Description:
Josef Bohuslav Ferstel was born in Prague to a musician father. He studied at the Prague Conservatory and was a composer of the generation following Dvořák. His more than 200 works, ranging from operas to chamber and orchestral pieces, have a profound Romantic sound and melancholy melodies in the tradition of Dvořák. This album includes three of Ferstel's orchestral works that give an overview of his style. The "Festive Overture," reminiscent of Smetana's works, combines Czech folk colors with Viennese elegance, while the "Symphony No. 1," written at the end of his twenties, tells a story from darkness to light, with a soaring chorale at the end of the piece. As a young man, Ferstel was devoted to theater and loved reading Shakespeare. From Shakespeare" is a series of symphonic poems in the style of "The Winter's Tale," "Twelfth Night," "Macbeth," and "The Jabberman" that depict four women. Naxos Japan
