Description:
Imre Széchenyi was born into a Hungarian noble family. A diplomat by profession, he continued his career as an ambassador while composing music at the same time. He was also a close friend of Franz Liszt, who had close ties to Hungary, and helped Liszt establish a music conservatory. Strauss was a lifelong friend of Johann Strauss II, with whom he maintained a close relationship, often performing Széchenyi's works in concert and dedicating his own works to Széchenyi. In this album, you can listen to some of his unknown works, most of which are world premiere recordings. The waltzes and marches that he loved, as well as the "Introduction and Hungarian March," which Liszt himself revised, are performed by Kassai and Lázár, specialists in Széchenyi's works. The piano used is a 1908 Bechstein owned by Wolfgang, Wagner's grandson (and Liszt's great-grandson). The lively tone is reminiscent of the glamorous social scene of the time. Naxos Japan
