Description:
Brahms' masterpiece, the "German Requiem," was composed in 1857 in memory of Schumann, whom he respected, but he stopped composing it for a while. The piece, which was finally completed in 1868 after the death of his mother, uses biblical passages translated into German rather than Latin, and Brahms' intention not to include the part about the resurrection of Christ, which is very personal. This album features a performance by acclaimed Bach conductor Ralph Otto with the Mainz Bach Choir and the Kaiserslautern Deutsches Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in Saarbrücken, Germany. The recording features a beautiful requiem with a sincere interpretation that delves into the inner workings of the work. The magnificent sound of the fugue that appears here and there is only possible with Otto, who specializes in Bach. Soprano Gansch sings with a limpid voice, and baritone Winkler's deep and sensitive voice is also in tune with the work. Naxos Japan
