Description:
NAXOS launches the complete Brahms Lieder cycle. In this first collection, the renowned tenor Christoph Pregardien is featured, shedding new light on a variety of songs spanning 25 years of composition. The four songs from Op. 43, including "On Eternal Love" and "A Night in May," are among the best known of Brahms' songs. Op. 86, including "Loneliness in the Field," is a collection of songs with the austere beauty typical of Brahms in his mature period. Op. 105, which begins with "It passes through me like a sound," is a collection of songs based on poems by his contemporaries. Op.32 is a collection of songs with relatively youthful tones. Almost all of the songs express his feelings for the person he was in love with, showing a side of Brahms that was more romantic than one might imagine. Pregardien makes full use of her calm voice and carefully sings the songs with Brahms' delicate emotional expression. Naxos Japan
