Description:
Caminos del Inca" is a network of roads that traverse South America. This road route, which crosses Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, and Colombia, including many Inca ruins, is home to many different cultures and musical traditions. The music of the composers on this album reveals a unique blend of these traditions and European cultural influences. These colorful pieces take the listener on an imaginary journey through the music of the late Romantic period, folk dances, the primitive impulses of Stravinsky's music, influences from popular music, and the simple beauty of the music itself. The program includes Tobal's "Calamari" with its lively tango-style rhythms, Campos' "Rural Dances" with its exotic melody at the beginning, and Garrido Rekka's "Andean Folk Dances" in five pieces with a variety of expressions. Miguel Arlt-Bedoya, a native of Peru, gives a superb performance with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, of which he is currently the principal conductor. Naxos Japan
