Description:
François Aubert was a highly influential figure in French opera in the 19th century. He composed about 50 operas during his lifetime, and was so highly acclaimed that his popularity at the Paris Opera at the time was split in two with Wagner. All of his works have graceful and refined melodies, and the overtures to his operas alone leave a strong impression on the listener. This is the fourth album in Dario Salvi's series of world premiere recordings of Aubert's overtures, including a variety of world premiere recordings, and introduces some of the best-known "Fra d'Overture" and "Fra Dia". From the overture and interlude to the best-known "Fra Diavolo," to the baroque "Divertissement at Versailles," to the overture and introduction to the almost unrecorded "The Betrothed of the King of Garbe," this is a fascinating array of works colored with colorful Rossini-esque melodies and orchestrations.
