Description:

Fazil Say, a Turkish pianist known for his prodigious talent and numerous fans, is also an accomplished composer with many works to his credit. His Violin Sonata No. 1, written in 1997, is full of the youthful sensibility typical of his youth, and uses Turkish motifs to great effect, especially the second movement, which reminds one of "jazz played in a Turkish palace. A unique piece. In the fourth movement, a phrase that sounds exactly like Psy's popular "Black Earth" can also be heard. The latest work, Violin Sonata No. 2 "Kaz Mountain" was written with a message from Psy, who lamented the large-scale deforestation for gold mining in "Kaz Mountain" in Turkey, which has been an object of worship since ancient times. Opening with an impressive and intense piano strike, the work is dedicated to the performer Eichhorn, and includes various episodes such as the birdsong played by the violin in the second movement and the theme of the third movement, which is reminiscent of a dance piece. Accompanied by Psy himself, the sonata is directly conveyed by Psy's own accompaniment. 2007's "A Thousand and One Nights in Haarlem" is Psy's version of "Scheherazade," a work that is also a tribute to Eichhorn. In the premiere, Patrizia Kopatchinskaja played the violin part, which is a bewitching melody, and the percussion plays an important role, creating an exotic atmosphere.Cleopatra" for unaccompanied violin, commissioned by the Henri Marteau International Violin Competition, was written as a tribute to Marteau, a famous violinist, and features superb technique and an Arabic sound. <Fazil Say was born in Turkey in 1970. Studied piano and composition at the Ankara State Conservatory, and at the age of 17 studied at the Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf. He then studied at the Berlin Conservatory, where he won the first prize at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1994. Since then, he has performed regularly with the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and St. Petersburg Philharmonic. In 1991, he premiered his own "Concerto for Violin and Piano" with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, and has also composed music for films. He is a frequent visitor to Japan and has a large number of fans. Naxos Japan
