Description:
Czerny is known as a pupil and friend of Beethoven. He worked on technical reform of piano playing in 19th century Vienna, and the exercises he wrote were very popular at the time and are still widely used today to improve basic playing techniques. However, he himself was a very humble man, and the improvements in playing technique were made "for the sake of playing the sonatas of Beethoven, whom he respected. For this reason, the numerous piano pieces he left behind are all highly technical and difficult to play, and some of them are considered more difficult than Chopin's works. However, because Czerny himself did not promote them, most of them have been forgotten. Only recently, with the increase in performance opportunities, has his unique style been reevaluated. Here we can hear two concertos and a rondino that uses a melody from an opera by Aubert, a composer of the same period. The second concerto, in particular, is a work that is strongly marked by Czerny's respect for his teacher, who was so moved by Beethoven's "Emperor" that he began composing it 12 days after the first performance.
