Description:

This album traces the seminal work of these composers in their pursuit of Polish nationalism. Karol Krupinski was a composer a generation before Chopin. He laid the foundation for the national style of Polish music, and his Fantasy for string quartet is a well-formed work. Stanislaw Monieuszko composed operas such as "Halka" and "The Ghost House," and is often referred to as the "father of Polish opera. His quartets are attractive for their lively and powerful style, which incorporates simple melodies such as hymns. Szymunt Noskowski was one of Poland's leading composers and teachers, and trained many of the generations of musicians who followed in his footsteps. The album contains variations and fugues on the theme of the Viotti melody, and although not radical, they are rich in wit and style. The performance is by the Lutoslawski Quartet, one of Poland's leading ensembles. The performance is full of empathy. Naxos Japan
