Gabriel Pierné was a composer of the French Impressionist period. He studied composition at the Paris Conservatory with Jules Massenet and organ with César Franck. 19 years old, he won the Prix de Rome for his cantata "Editho" and since then, while working as conductor of the Orchestre de la Colonne and organist at Sainte-Clotilde Church, he has been involved in many genres, including opera He has left behind works in many genres, including opera. The piece on this album, "Ramuncho," is incidental music for a play that premiered in 1908." The suite also includes such folkloric pieces as "Fandango" and "Basque Rhapsody." The ballet music, "Cidade et l'Amour de Siderise" is one of Pierné's most famous works, first premiered at the Paris Opera in 1923 and later restructured as a concert suite; the story, set in the 18th century, combines ancient Greek melody with elements of baroque parody, and its sophisticated music is one of the most sophisticated of the neoclassical pallet works. The sophisticated music is outstanding among neoclassical pareele works. Darrell Ang was born in Singapore in 1979. After graduating at the top of his class from the Department of Conducting at the St. Petersburg Conservatory of Music, he went on to complete a master's degree in conducting at Yale University.In 2007, he won the first prize at the 50th Besançon International Conducting Competition. In 2008, he won the highest prize at the 8th Arturo Toscanini International Conducting Competition. In the same year, he was appointed Young Associate Conductor of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and from the 2012 season, he served as Music Director of the Orchestre de Bretagne de France for four years. He has made guest appearances with many prominent orchestras in France, including Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, and Orchestre de la Conseil Lamoureux, and is a regular guest at the Mariinsky Theater.
