Description:
Bizet's opera "Carmen" was a failure when first performed on March 3, 1875. Today, however, it is one of the most popular operas in the world. After the premiere, Bizet was offered a tour of Vienna, but on June 4 of the same year, Bizet, who had always been sickly, died suddenly. (It is known that after his death, his friend Ernesto Giraud revised the work, and it was performed in Vienna.) Guiraud also created this suite, which is an impressive work, taking music from the opera, which is full of beautiful melodies, in all directions. Guiraud's originality in placing the famous opening section of the "Prelude" as a separate "Bullfighter" at the end of the first suite adds to the overall tension of the suite. The "L'Arles" suite is a bit more complicated, as the first suite was composed by Bizet himself, and the second suite was composed by Guiraud, who also added pieces from other works to the suite. Nevertheless, all of the arrangements stand out for the quality of the original works. Naxos Japan
