Description:
Gubaidulina: Complete Works for Guitar Sofia Gubaidulina, a female composer from the Tatar Autonomous Republic, is known for her unique approach—such as incorporating the “Fibonacci sequence” into her works and using unusual instruments like Russian folk instruments and the Japanese koto. This album features her complete works for “guitar.” That said, there are only four pieces, and among them, just two are solo works. Her “unique” world, crafted entirely from the sound of the guitar, unfolds endlessly. The first track, “Repentance,” captivates with its exquisite soundscape created by three guitars and two low-string instruments—a cello and a double bass. Here, the guitars are used at times like harps and at other times like percussion instruments, leaving the listener breathless with the thrill of having their preconceptions steadily shattered. Her early work, “Serenade,” presents a world that is, conversely, somewhat different (perhaps too ordinary?), while the fluid “Toccata” is also quite interesting. *Sotto Voce* also features low-string instruments, creating a sound that is almost like a sigh. This is fascinating. (NAXOS) [Track Listing] Gubaidulina: 1. Repentance (2008) 2. Serenade (1960) 3. Toccata (c. 1969) 4.
