Jules Massenet (1842-1912), a French "opera composer," wrote nearly 40 operas during his lifetime, but most of them have been forgotten, with only a few works such as "Manon," "Thais," and "Werther" remaining in the repertoire today. Nevertheless, other than the aforementioned repertoire, his works have not been completely forgotten, and he is known to explode in popularity when, for example, a singer suitable for a leading role appears on the scene. His works are often quite interesting to listen to because of his use of light motifs (to describe a person or situation with a specific motive) and moderate eroticism, but as mentioned above, it is sad that we seldom have the opportunity to hear them. This album is a collection of Massenet's ballet music. Although there is no singing here, the music is littered with profound harmonies and beautiful, bewitching melodies. Naxos Japan
