Lisbon-born Jori Braga Santos (1924-1988), a pupil of Freitas Blanco, was highly musically creative and left behind brilliant music reflecting the characteristics of Portuguese folk music. He wrote six symphonies, all of which were recorded by Cassuto for MARCO POLO to great acclaim, and this is his first new recording in many years. His musical language is very rich and meticulously architected, and all of them have a fascinating sound world. The ballet music "Alfama" is a world premiere recording. Cassuto, who was a close friend of the composer, recreated the score by combining the missing parts of the score preserved in the library and the composer's notes that he had with him.
