Korngold, a composer who has recently garnered sudden attention—not least due to the Japanese production of *The City of the Dead*—is a figure many of you are likely already familiar with as a prodigious genius. Indeed, when one listens to works he composed before turning 13, it is impossible not to be moved by the sheer magnitude of his talent. From the very first notes, the same rich essence that characterizes his later Violin Concerto already wafts through the music. This piano trio is also known for having been premiered with none other than Bruno Walter at the piano. At that time, Walter showered the young boy with lavish praise, and it’s easy to see why he was so captivated by the boy’s talent—so much so that he later went out of his way to assist Korngold when he sought asylum in the United States. Schönberg’s *Verklärte Nacht* is featured here in the piano trio arrangement by Stoermer. The piano is given a prominent role, lending the piece a charm distinct from that of the original string sextet version. Naxos Japan
