This is the 14th collection of sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti (1685–1757). That said, since he composed a total of 555 sonatas, we haven’t even reached the halfway point yet. In this era, even though they were called “sonatas,” most were written as single-movement pieces, so meticulous attention must be paid to the expression of each piece. The NAXOS series is known for featuring a different pianist on every album, and recently, it has shown particular foresight in showcasing exceptional young talents. The pianist featured here is Hao Duanduan, a young talent born in 1990 who won first prize at the 2009 Shanghai International Piano Competition.
