NAXOS has achieved the remarkable feat of recording the complete collection of lesser-known piano works by the Czech composer Martinů (1890–1959), and we are now planning to present all of Martinů’s piano concertos as well. This album features two concertos and a concertino composed in 1938. Each piece is a distinctive work of music that exquisitely blends Impressionism with a primal sense of dynamism. The performances are by the familiar Koukuru. As a Martinů scholar, his interpretations—alongside those of Filkszny, a friend of the composer—will likely be preserved for posterity as definitive versions. Naxos Japan
