A core of steel hidden in soft feathers, Altstedt, born in 1982, is a promising young cellist who has already released several CDs. Studying under Bergamenschitikoff and Geringas, she has won several competitions, including the German Music Competition in 2005, the Stuttgart International Cello Competition, and the Adam International Competition in 2006. Her abilities are well recognized by everyone. In this debut recording for NAXOS, she performs works by Pierné, Dandy, and Boulanger. The cello sonata by Pierné, which seems to be on the borderline between Romanticism and Impressionism, Dandy's work that follows the old French dance form, and Boulanger's work that has a delicate aspect as if it were built on thin ice, all have a variety of expressions that cannot be categorized as "French music.
