Schubert (1797-1828) is known as the king of opera, but it is not widely known that he wrote quite a few operas. Most of his operas failed at their premieres and were never heard by anyone again. Nevertheless, most of the works on this album are ambitious works from Schubert's teenage years, and the series of works filled with lively melodies reminiscent of Beethoven and Weber are too good to be left untouched.
